Celebrating Ireland’s Stories Through Dance

 

Fidget Feets is proud to have collaborated with RTÉ on Centenary Awakening, a nationwide arts initiative marking 100 years of Irish storytelling, creativity and cultural change. This partnership brought together contemporary dance, community voices and broadcast media to explore what awakening means in Ireland today.

Through original choreography and filmed performance, Fidget Feets translates the spirit of the Centenary into movement — reflecting on identity, memory, resilience and renewal across generations.

Community at the Heart

Central to this project was accessibility and connection. Fidget Feets engaged with local communities and performers, reflecting the diverse voices that shape modern Ireland. The piece celebrates:

  • Shared history

  • New perspectives

  • The evolving Irish identity

Developed in partnership with RTÉ, Centenary Awakening invited artists to respond creatively to Ireland’s past, present and future. Fidget Feet created a bespoke dance work that captured:

 

  • The emotional legacy of Ireland’s history

  • The power of collective experience

  • The idea of awakening — social, political and personal

This work was filmed for national broadcast and digital platforms, bringing dance directly into homes across the country.

The Creative Process

The choreography was inspired by

  • Archival stories and centenary themes

  • Contemporary Irish life and community

  • The physical language of transformation

  • Working closely with RTÉ’s production team, Fidget Feet crafted a piece that merges live performance with cinematic storytelling, ensuring the message reached audiences beyond the stage.
