Aerial Dance Forum

In October 2007 Fidget Feet received funding from ACE in the North East and Dance Connect in Dance City to organise the first Aerial Dance Forum in Newcastle, England.

Fred Deb from France taught the workshops, and fifteen professional aerial dancers who were a mixture of Dance Connect and Fidget Feet members took part in this exciting 3-day event.

Aerial dance is a new art form and Fidget Feet are one of the companies supporting the possibility of having an International Aerial Dance Festival in 2009/10. This aerial dance forum is the first step in bringing aerial dancers and investors together to discuss the idea and how to make this happen.

Fred Deb performs aerial fabric and hoop, she studied at the French National Circus Arts Centre of Châlons en Champagne. Fred Debs teaches aerial fabric workshops regularly in France and abroad, in the USA (San Francisco, Portland, Boulder and Seattle), and in Japan.

5 day workshop, October 2008 – Dance House, Dublin

Dance House in Dublin has booked Chantal McCormick to teach a week of aerial workshops to the local dance and circus communities. Chantal will teach basic rope, silks/tissue and low flying harness work in the morning. Then in the afternoon will work on combining dance with the aerial skills they have learnt.

12 adults only for one week, 10am-5pm Monday 6th to Friday 10th October. To book early please contact Elisebetta (elisabetta.bisaro@danceireland.ie) at Dance House. This is the first taster week with plans to have more in Dublin and Firkin Crane Cork in 2009.

This aerial dance forum in Dublin will be a first step – artists will learn from the experience and the organisers will learn from evaluating the process – what worked and what needs to be changed for future training and ‘sharing’ forums. It is amazing the region will play such an important role in the development of this, and be the host to this first taster of what is to be built upon for a national aerial dance festival.
